Katie’s love for the performing arts started at the age of 3 when she began classes in Ballet and Tap. Very quickly she broadened her range, learning more styles including Freestyle and Street dance. After completing her Grade 5 in Ballet with Distinction, she was determined to turn her mind to Freestyle Dance and partook in IDTA examinations achieving up to International Award 2.
Katie’s exceptional style and talent resulted in her being selected to be an IDTA Freestyle Scholarship nominee after being examined by Miss Dawn Parker, the ex-president of the IDTA. Katie was awarded 96% Honours in 2015, an outstanding score awarded by a highly regarded examiner. In addition to numerous exams, Katie has also danced in theatres including the Royal Albert Hall, Sadler’s Wells, the Birmingham Hippodrome and the Alexandra Theatre.
In 2015 Katie decided to begin passing this passion to younger students through demonstrating in the very class she began her Freestyle Dance career in. She then went on to join the SSPA teaching assistant team in her first Musical Theatre class in Meriden. Katie is now completing her IDTA professional dance teacher training and is a popular face at many of our after school clubs. Katie is looking forward to getting more involved in our evening classes and continuing her professional development with the Katie Cooper and the IDTA.
