Sophie attended StarStruck from 2004 – 2012 and she has written an account of her time with us. Thank You Sophie, we are all so proud of everything you have accomplished! We can’t wait to see all that you have yet to do…
I can honestly say that I wouldn’t be the performer I am today without Katie and all the teachers at StarStruck!
When I was younger StarStruck was a place to meet friends, play games, have fun and build confidence; however when I was about 12 years old I began to take Musical Theatre performing more and more seriously and my love for all things singing, dancing and acting began. I still remember my first Solo Musical Theatre exam with StarStruck; I sang “Next Time You Fall in Love” from Starlight Express which was accompanied with an expressive dance routine. This was the first time I felt like a performer and not just someone who was singing for fun.
Another memorable moment was playing Troy Bolton from “High School Musical” in one of the StarStruck annual shows; I have to say that performance is still hands down my favourite. Not because I was a lead role but because I remember the amount of fun we had in every single rehearsal. We would laugh so much and still manage to learn all our lines and work hard; that’s what StarStruck is all about, working hard, learning techniques for all three disiplines and having fun.
In 2010 I received the Miss StarStruck award which to this day still shocks me, I would never of thought that I would be put forward for such a StarStruck achievement. I looked up to the people who gained these throphies and suddenly I was receiving one!
I am so grateful for all the opportunities and encouragement that I was given at StarStruck. Another massive opportunity for me was being lucky enough to perform in their first ever Mardi Gras team at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London in 2010. We performed extracts from the musicals “Wicked” and “Scrooge” and I loved every second.
I went on to attend Stratford-Upon-Avon College for two years on a BTEC Musical Theatre course and achieved Distinction (D), D*, D* and then studied at the Stage School, Stella Mann College of Performing Arts in Bedford, Londonon a three year Musical Theatre course. Since graduating from here I have been signed with AB Castings and Management. I have been modelling, singing and dancing across the world and most recently received a contract at Disneyland Paris where I have been cast as Ariel from The Little Mermaid.
StarStruck helped me realise my potential and gave me the confidence to perform. Without my StarStruck training all those years ago, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I have gained friends and a second family for life.
